Borrowed Time
I wrote this song for my father in 1999 when he suffered a heart attack. I'm happy to say that he is still with us :-)
We've said the things we want to say,
We've known a love that goes both ways,
no need to sigh and say, one day, one day
We've had our ups, we've had our downs
the long talks, and the paternal frowns
but I think we've found some common ground, where I can say to you
I know it's true, you're living on borrowed time,
I'm glad you're a friend of mine
There's many things we'll never do,
who could ever hope to be able to
live their whole life, dawn till dusk, with everyone they love
I know I sometimes dissappoint,
and other times, well we just miss the point
but I think we've found some common ground where I can say to you
I know it's true, we're living on borrowed time,
I'm glad you're a friend of mine
Now that I see you, for the man you are
I've lost the illusion that we will never part
Now that I see you, for the man you are
This immortal figure's a relic of the past.
We've said the things we want to say,
We've known a love that goes both ways,
no need to sigh and say, one day, one day
We've had our ups, we've had our downs
the long talks, and the paternal frowns
but I think we've found some common ground, where I can say to you
I know it's true, we're living on borrowed time,
I'm glad you're a friend of mine
